Interactive Meals with Friends

Okonomiyaki- is a traditional Japanese savory pancake meal that you cook at your table. It is a fun, interactive thing to do with your kids. There are different styles: Osaka, Hiroshima, Tokyo styles. My personal favorite is Hiroshima style, which includes yakisoba (noodles) as the base. The pancake is a savory batter with toppings like bacon, cabbage, tako (octopus) or really anything you prefer. Usually topped off with a special sauce, nori and mayo.

Our cooking table, wished we had this size grill in our homes. So easy to cook a meal.

Okonomiyaki restaurants are usually very popular after drinking and late nights. We went to one during lunchtime with Blake’s host brother Arata and family. Here are some pictures from this weekend.

This place is called SakuraTei located in Harajuku. We came right when they opened at 11 AM on a Sunday. Usually they get busy later in the evening or nighttime as a late night, after drinking place to get food.

Alex got into cooking and he is making Yakisoba. He said he now can make this at home, OK Alex you can cook dinner one night. Glad Alex used his skills from Culinary class at Lincoln HS. Kosei is watching Alex cook.
